Free dashboard security plugin

WPS Hide Login is a free security plugin for WordPress that prevents hackers from accessing your login URL and breaching your account with brute force attacks. With similar features as iThemes Security, Easy Hide Login, and Loginizer, you can change the address of the WP dashboard or login pages so that no one can use them to get into your account.

If you have any other plugins hooking into the login page, WPS Hide Login generally works with most of them. For instance, it’s compatible with Jetpack, bbPress, and User Switching. While the plugin may be free, you may not get the required support from the developers that only serve to maintain or update it.

Hiding your WordPress login page

Some hackers use brute force attacks by sending hundreds of potential passwords into your WP login area. Since the login URL is generally standard across WordPress websites, it makes it extremely vulnerable to breaches.

WPS Hide Login lets you set a different login address so that no one can use the default one, adding more security to the admin portion of the site. Of course, you’ll run into issues if you lose the new URL.

Integration with popular plugins

There are several other plugins that hook into the WordPress login page, such as the popular Jetpack utility. WPS Hide Login works well with them so that there’s no conflict or issues when you run it. However, it won’t work with hardcoded ones, but you can still use it across multiple sites to protect them.

Security issues

One downfall of WPS Hide Login is the security issues noted by the WordPress community. Many users have indicated that they can still access the WP login address via the default method. For those who have WordFence Security installed, there’s still a noticeable amount of brute force attacks even with the plugin activated. It’s best to practice caution and look out for updates.

The vanishing login page

WPS Hide Login presents an opportunity to add more security to your website by hiding the login page from potential hackers. While you can change the URL to a personal one, you may not receive support if you lose the new one. You’ll need to use this plugin at your own risk.

In Softonic we scan all the files hosted on our platform to assess and avoid any potential harm for your device. Our team performs checks each time a new file is uploaded and periodically reviews files to confirm or update their status. This comprehensive process allows us to set a status for any downloadable file as follows:

Clean

It’s extremely likely that this software program is clean.

What does this mean?

We have scanned the file and URLs associated with this software program in more than 50 of the world's leading antivirus services; no possible threat has been detected.

Warning

This software program is potentially malicious or may contain unwanted bundled software.

Why is the software program still available?

Based on our scan system, we have determined that these flags are possibly false positives.

What is a false positive?

It means a benign program is wrongfully flagged as malicious due to an overly broad detection signature or algorithm used in an antivirus program.

We’d like to highlight that from time to time, we may miss a potentially malicious software program. To continue promising you a malware-free catalog of programs and apps, our team has integrated a Report Software feature in every catalog page that loops your feedback back to us.

Flag any particular issues you may encounter and Softonic will address those concerns as soon as possible.
